Description |
This is an EK real photo postcard of Oak Lawn’s business district on 95th Street looking east from Minnick Avenue circa 1947. From left to right are Snyder's Oak Lawn Dairy Bar, 5312 W. 95th Street, Oak Lawn Trust and Savings Bank, 5310 W. 95th Street, The Public Service Company, Behrend's Hardware, 5300 W. 95th Street, the Hilgendorf house, Sinclair Gas Station, and Jim's Tap Room (formerly Schultz's Tavern and later Nick's Tap Room), at 5220 W. 95th Street. The Oak Lawn water tower (center, back) is also visible. Automobiles of the era can be seen parked along the street and a sign for Curtiss Gum is visible. The back of the card contains preprinted text, including the publisher's imprint, a handwritten note, and a small address label from the donor. The title, "Main Street (95th) Facing East ~ Oak Lawn ILL" is printed in white near the bottom edge of the photo. |
