Description |
This is a photograph construction of the Village Green and the parking lot east of the Oak Lawn Public Library. The view is looking northeast from Cook Avenue from the second floor of the Oak Lawn Public Library. In this photograph, the reconfiguration of Dumke Drive is clearly seen. Dumke Drive was terminated at Cook Avenue to accommodate the construction of the Village Green by curving Dumke Drive left on to Cook Avenue. Barricades are at 52nd Avenue and Dumke Drive blocking the street from traffic while the work is in progress. In the left of the photograph, the land where the Village Hall stood at 5252 West Dumke Drive has been cleared and leveled. This land will become the Village Green. The building in the background is the Masonic Lodge located at 9420 South 52nd Avenue. Cars are parked in the lot to the north of the Lodge. Homes along the south side of Oak Street between 52nd Avenue and Raymond Avenue are seen. A partial alley to a garage behind the homes is parallel to the chain link fence. Homes in the background are on the east side of 52nd Avenue. Cars parked in the lot to the south of the Lodge are in the parking lot of the Zimmerman and Sandeman Funeral Home located at 5200 West 95th Street. The land in the foreground of the photograph is the former site of the Center of Public Safety. The building was completed in 1963 and housed both the Oak Lawn Police Department and Oak Lawn Fire Department. It was demolished in 1991. The site was redeveloped into a Village parking lot. |
