This is a slide of the aftermath of the 1967 Oak Lawn tornado. It features a view of the Auburn Park Press building at 9121 S. Cicero Avenue. The Oak Lawn Roller Rink, which was housed in the back of the building is totally destroyed. The Oak Lawn water tower, located at 9437 S. Cook Avenue, is visible just to the right of the building. The building on the left is the Becal Tile and Paint store located at 9115 S. Cicero. The buildings to the right of the roller rink included the Coach House Car Wash located at 9135 S. Cicero, and the Dairy Basket located at 9159 S. Cicero Avenue, both of which were also heavily damaged. In the foreground, debris from the Airway Trailer Park which was located behind the businesses is strewn everywhere. Sheet metal and aluminum siding is hanging on electric wires and wrapped around poles. |
