This is a photograph of William J. Cummens and his wife, Dorothy (Cassells) Cummens. The black & white image was taken in The Boulevard Room at The Stevens Hotel in Chicago, circa 1950, and shows a young couple, both dressed up, seated on a highbacked bench at table coved with a white tablecloth. The Boulevard Room was a Chicago entertainment venue that offered nightly entertainment, from musical shows to ice skating performances. The Stevens Hotel opened in 1927 and was bought by Conrad Hilton in 1945. Hilton was responsible for attracting many prominent celebrities and political figures to entertain and visit the hotel. William & Dorothy Cummens were long time Oak Lawn residents, moving here to raise their family and living here in town until their deaths. |
