Description |
This is a photograph, circa 1916, of Oak Lawn Lake in the summer. The black & white image shows a group of boys swimming in the lake with the tree line shores rising around them. A small island is visible directly behind them and part of the Auschwitz house can be seen on the right. The title "View of Lake Oak Lawn ILL" is printed across the bottom of the image. One of the five boys is Merrill Phillip Diamond, but it is unknown which boy he is and the others are unidentified. Oak Lawn Lake was hand dug in the 1890s from a marshy spot of Stony Creek/Oak Lawn Creek. The lake is now part of Lake Shore Park which is administered by Oak Lawn Park District. |
