Description |
This is a photograph of construction of the Village Green and the parking lot east of the Oak Lawn Public Library. This view is from the south to the north looking across the former site of the Center for Public Safety building located at 9431 South Cook Avenue. The building was originally built in 1963 and demolished in 1991. It housed both the Oak Lawn Police Department and Oak Lawn Fire Department. The site is being redeveloped into a Village parking lot. Construction equipment is also seen on the former site of the Oak Lawn Village Hall at 5252 West Dumke Drive (formerly known as James Street). The Village Hall was demolished in 1995 after the new Oak Lawn Municipal Center on Raymond Avenue was built. The site of the old Village Hall is now the Village Green. Dumke Drive was terminated at Cook Avenue to accommodate the construction of the Village Green. In the background in the right of the photograph is the Masonic Lodge located at 9420 South 52nd Avenue. Homes in the background are on the south side of Oak Street in the 5200 block between 52nd Avenue on the east and Raymond Avenue on the west. |
