Description |
This is a photograph, circa 1936, of the interior of the first Oak Lawn Public Library at 95th Street and Cook Avenue. The black & white image shows a boy and a girl, backs to the camera, talking with an adult woman. Bookcases line the wall on the image right, posters are hung on the wall in the background, and a table can be seen on the image left. The people in the photo are unidentified. The building formerly had been a barn and when it was painted a bright red, it was readily identified as the 'Little Red Library.' The first library opened in 1936 with the assistance of a Works Progress Administration grant and was demolished between 1966-1968. |
