This is a photograph of Anton and Magdalena Walter and their friends celebrating the Walter's 50th wedding anniversary at 103rd Street near Crawford Avenue. The black & white image shows a large group of people seated at tables, posing for the camera. The senior Walters can be seen in the background, seated behind a large wedding cake. The Walters were early residents of the southeastern section of Oak Lawn, having come in 1922. According to the 1930 and 1940 census records, they immigrated from Yugoslavia in 1921. The 1930 census record shows that Anton and Magdalena Walter were married when they were 22 and 20, respectively, which would place their marriage circa 1885. Their granddaughter, Katherine "Kay" Tribe, and her family lived in the old family home at 4035 W. 103rd Street until the early 1960s. |
