Description |
This is a slide from a collection of images produced by former Oak Lawn Public Library Trustee Kay Siemeck. It features a view of Cook School formerly located at 9526 South Cook Avenue. The street sign for the intersection of Cook Avenue and Wabash Avenue is seen to the right. Opened in 1906, the photo shows the south and front facades. At the time of this photo, the building housed the Oak Lawn Family Service Center, CAP office, the Fifth District Court, the Oak Lawn Liason Officer, PLOWS office, and the Oak Lawn Chamber of Commerce. Several vehicles can be seen parked near the building which is surrounded by a chain-link fence. Several residential structures are in the left background and the backs of businesses in the 5251-5259 block of 95th Street are in the background on the right. The traffic light at 95th Street and Cook Avenue and the Oak Lawn Public Library are also partially visible in the very right of the photograph. The school was torn down in 2003 as were the businesses in 2006 as part of Oak Lawn's redevelopment. The Cook School site is the location of the Prairie Town Center condominiums. A new shopping development now lines 95th Street from Cook Avenue to 53rd Avenue. |
