Description |
This is a photograph of the 1953 Oak Lawn Round-Up Days parade. The black & white image shows a car representing the Lions Blind Project / Lions Club driving west on 95th Street past the reviewing stand at 53rd Avenue. A sign on the left rear door reads: "This is Diane our little blind girl. Buy your brooms from the Lions". People are lined up along the street watching the parade pass. The Blind Project was a network of shops where visually impaired people worked to support themselves making brooms which the Lions Clubs then sold. Today, LCI (Lions Club Industries) is a diverse manufacturing, distribution, and retail company that sells Abilityone products, products manufactured by employees who are blind, visually impaired, or have other disabilities. |
