Description |
This is a photograph of the Oak Lawn Fest Parade in 1983. It features a car pulling a float sponsored by Krauss' Gaslight Lounge, which was located at 5130 West 95th Street, moving westbound on 95th Street near 51st Avenue. Several people are riding on the float costumed in clothing from the early 20th Century and representing summer fun such as fishing and picnics. The Oak Lawn Shell Car Wash and Detail Center, located at 5105 W. 95th Street, is visible in the background. In the far background, the roofs of the light gray colored storage buildings of the Beatty Lumber Company are partially in view. The main office of the lumber company was located at 9537 S. 52nd Avenue. The lumber company buildings were demolished in June of 2016 in anticipation of redevelopment including the construction of a medical office building. A box car is also partially visible in the background just to the right of what appears to be an ice cream truck parked in the gas station lot. It is on a railway spur near the lumber company. People are lining the south side of 95th Street to watch the parade. |
