This is an aerial photograph of the heart of Oak Lawn's business district from 54th Avenue on the west, to 52nd Avenue on the east, and from Oak Street (9400 S) to 96th Street on the south. 95th Street is seen running diagonally from the top (east) of the photo to the bottom right (west). Oak Lawn Bible Church, located at 9435 S. 54th Avenue is seen in the bottom right of the photo. The former Oak Lawn Family Service building located at 9401 S. 53rd Court is visible just to the north (right) and east of the church. The Oak Lawn Municipal Center, located at 9446 S. Raymond Avenue, is at the center of the picture. The Oak Lawn Public Library, located at 9427 S. Raymond Avenue, is visible just to the east of the Center. The Village Green and gazebo are to the right (north) of the library. The Oak Lawn Masonic Lodge, located at 9420 S. 52nd Avenue, is just east of the Village Green. The railroad tracks are partially visible in the very right top of the photo. The Johnson-Phelps VFW Post #5220 located at 9514 W 52nd Avenue is partially visible just to the left (north) of the tracks. Cook School, located at 9526 S. Cook Avenue, is visible in the upper right corner of the picture. Cook School has since been demolished. The entire 5200 block of 95th Street, seen just to north (left of Cook School) as well as the 9500 block on the east side of Cook Avenue have also been demolished and rebuilt. Homes and apartment buildings are seen in the surrounding area. |
