Description |
This is a photograph featuring the construction of the Harry V. Fletcher home on the southwest corner of 52nd Avenue and 93rd Street (now known as Southwest Highway). This view is looking toward the northeast at west and south facades of home. In 1929, Southwest Highway was built just to the north of the power pole that is seen in the left center of the picture. Harry Fletcher was an Oak Lawn resident from about 1910 to 1971. Fletcher built the home which still stands at 9300 S. 52nd Avenue. Fletcher, a carpenter by trade, immigrated to the United States from England in 1909. He served as Oak Lawn's first policeman in 1915 and in several different Village positions over the years. He was also a World War I veteran. |
