Description |
This is a photograph of a group of men posing at what is believed to be a Democratic Party event. The man on the far left is Bob Norris of the Garden School for the Handicapped. The man is the center is Edward V. Hanrahan. Mr. Hanrahan built a reputation as a crime-busting prosecutor during four years as U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Illinois and was overwhelmingly elected Cook County state's attorney in 1968. Officers from Hanrahan's office were responsible for the raid on the apartment of Fred Hampton of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party on December 4, 1969. The backlash from the raid ended Hanrahan's political aspirations. Fred M. Dumke, Mayor of Oak Lawn, is to the right of Hanrahan. The fifth man from the right is believed to be Jerome Cosentino, a Democratic committeeman from Palos Township who was on the Metropolitan Sanitary District Board from 1975-1979 and was elected as Illinois Treasurer in 1978 and again in 1986. He was indicted in 1992 on federal bank fraud charges and agreed to plead guilty in a check kiting scheme. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to nine months of house arrest. |
