This is a photograph showing, from left to right, the residence of Harry Preston, Sr. and his wife, Mabel (Day) Preston, at 5213 W. 94th Street; the Oak Lawn Fire department; Oak Lawn Police Department and Village Hall, located at the South east corner of James Street and Cook Avenue. Several vehicles are parked near the buildings. 94th Street is now known as Oak Street and James Street is now known as Dumke Drive. Harry Preston, Sr. immigrated to Chicago from England in 1907 and moved to Oak Lawn about 1920. He worked as a carpenter and married Mabel Day, who also immigrated to Chicago from England. They had a son, Harry Preston, Jr. |
