Description |
This is a photograph of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial and Flagpole located on the southwest corner of 52nd Avenue and Yourell Drive. The memorial was established as an Eagle Scout project by Justin Aubin. The blocks in the walls represent the memorial sponsors including Combat Wounded Veterans Chapter 575, Oak Lawn, IL; Oak Lawn Firefighters Local 3405; the Department of the Army, the Department of the Navy; the Department of the Marine Corps; the United States Coast Guard; the Oak Lawn Police Department; and the Johnson-Phelps Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary 5220. The blocks on the floor of the memorial were donated and dedicated in memory of different people. Visible in the background is the railroad crossing on 52nd Avenue. The former I.N.R. Beatty Lumber Company buildings can be seen across the tracks to the southeast. In the distance, the Oak Lawn Metra Station parking structure located at 9525 Tulley Avenue is visible. |
