Description |
This is a photograph, circa 1912, of the Auschwitz House, 9625 East Shore Drive. The black & white image shows Oak Lawn Lake on the image left with an island about center and the home on image right. The photo was shot in the fall or early spring as the trees surrounding the neighborhood are leafless. The home was built in 1894 and moved from the vicinity of 96th Street and Minnick Avenue to its present location. The home has been designated as a historical landmark by the Oak Lawn Historic Preservation Commission. Enid Auschwitz, a World War I veteran, lived here for a time. She was the daughter of Fred and Anna Auschwitz. |
