This is a photograph of the construction site of the 51st Avenue Station development, a mixed commercial and residential building, located at 9440 South 51st Avenue. This development was built on the former site of Fernwood Smith Cleaners at 5114 West 95th Street, the A & B Oak Lawn Currency Exchange located at 5112 W. 95th Street, and Millie's Ice Cream and Coffee Shoppe which was located in back of the currency exchange at 5108 West 95th Street. This photograph looks east across the construction site. The foundation is in and cement block is going up. A truck and a backhoe are parked inside the construction fence which borders the east side of the site along 51st Avenue. The red garage in the right background of the photograph is on the Pilgrim Faith United Church of Christ property located at 9411 South 51st Avenue. The building in the far background, in about the center of the photograph, is the front of an apartment building on Columbus Drive farther east of the site. |
