This is a photograph of the building located at 9814-9816 South Cicero Avenue. Library staff photographed the property at the request of Landmark, IL, a statewide non-profit dedicated to saving historic places. The organization promotes the preservation, restoration, and adaptive use of buildings and sites. The subject addresses are in a block of buildings containing several businesses and apartments over the back of the building. The addresses, moving right to left, or lower to higher address numbers include F. H. Leinweber Co., Inc. Underlayments located at 9812 South Cicero Avenue, Don's Barbershop located at 9814 South Cicero Avenue, Jerry Carter's State Farm Insurance office at 9816 South Cicero Avenue, and Shears to You salon and spa encompassing both the 9818 and 9822 storefronts. This view was taken from the east side of Cicero Avenue looking northwest at the south and east facades of the subject property. The enclosed staircase with glass block windows leading to the apartments located above and in back of the businesses is visible. A sunroom attached to the Shears to You salon is prominent on the south side of the building. Traffic can be seen moving southbound on Cicero Avenue. Cars are parked on the side street south of the building while other cars are in the lot in back of the building. A residential home west of the business is seen in the background. Other businesses in view along this stretch of Cicero Avenue include Pink Nails at 9830 South Cicero Avenue, in the left (south) of the photograph, to the right (north) the Speedway Gas Station located at 9800 South Cicero Avenue and Jiffy Lube at 9756 South Cicero Avenue. |
