Description |
This is a photograph, circa 1915, of Harry Fletcher, Oak Lawn's first motorcycle policeman, seated on his Indian motorcycle. The photo was taken on the Evergreen Farm located at 103rd Street and Long Avenue. Fletcher, a native of England who came to Oak Lawn in 1909, was one of the first members of Oak Lawn's police department. He was appointed to a part time position in 1915. Fletcher used to patrol the area from Central to Cicero Avenues and from 87th to 99th Streets. Law enforcement had previously been solely the responsibility of Village Marshall, Frank J. O'Brien, Sr. |
