This is a photograph of the aftermath of a fire at the Lorelei Restaurant located at 9500 S. Cicero Avenue in 1977 taken by Worth Firefighter Gerald S. Carley. The restaurant was located on the southwest corner of the intersection of 95th Street and Cicero Avenue. In this photograph, firefighters are working inside the restaurant after the roof has collapsed in. Newspaper accounts of the fire state that the alarm came in around 3:14 am. The restaurant closed at 2 am and was unoccupied. It was believed that the fire started in a stove in the restaurant kitchen and spread to other businesses in the space between the ceilings and the roof. The 2 alarm fire also gutted Whitley's Bridal House at 4805 West 95th Street, the Fabrique Shoppe at 4807 West 95th Street, and the Sabrina Boutique at 4809 West 95th Street. The Oak Lawn Fire Department was assisted by units from Burbank, Chicago Ridge, Evergreen Park, Hometown, North Palos, Roberts Park, and Worth. |
