This is a photograph of a welcome home parade on 95th Street for Oak Lawn's World War I veterans. The black & white image shows Enid Auschwitz, one of the first female veterans from the village, wearing white and marching in the procession. A band is marching behind her. James Montgomery, the first village president, can be seen crossing the street in the foreground. The platform on the right side of the photo is where Edward A. Biggs, the village attorney, gave an address to the veterans and citizens. Behrend's Hardware Store, on the northwest corner of Raymond Avenue and 95th Street, can be seen in the background. |
