Description |
This is a photograph, circa 1946, of Hump Engine No. 5 with railroad workers in the clearing yard of the Belt Railway of Chicago. This engine was used to push cars over a slight hill in the train yard after which the car would roll by gravity to their proper track. The black & white image shows three men standing near the front of the big engine. From left to right are Paul Hendy (switchman) from Chicago, David Trimble (engineer) from Oak Lawn, and Archie Nelson (fireman) from Englewood. |
