Description |
This is a photograph of the Oak Lawn Pet Parade in 1980. The parade was sponsored by the Oak Lawn Chamber of Commerce. It began at 95th Street and Mansfield Avenue and traveled east to Cook Avenue. This photograph features a view of pom pon girls from Oak Lawn Community High School marching east bound on 95th Street near 53rd Court. Behind them, traffic on 95th Street has been diverted to the right (north) side of the street with one lane traveling in each direction to accommodate the parade. Businesses visible in the background include the Oak Village Animal Hospital at 5362 West 95th Street, the Papoose Pre-School located at 5354 West 95th Street, and a dental office at 5346 West 95th Street. The building partially visible in the right foreground housed Rutledge Printing Company at 5316 West 95th Street; the Joseph Francis Accounting office at 5314 West 95th Street, and Smith Radio and TV at 5212 West 95th Street. The buildings from 5312 through 5316 have since been demolished and redeveloped. The tower on the Chiappetti Home, formerly located at 5418 West 95th Street, is partially visible behind the second and third pom pon girls from the right. |
