Description |
This is a photograph, circa 1970, of the front exterior of Spitzer's Service Station, 5500 W. 95th Street. In this image, the building's roof has been raised from a flat surface to a pitched incline and includes a peak over the bay door. The size of the station has also increased. A man can be seen standing in the door of the station. The first building was a cement block structure built in 1916 and owned by Mr. Tesnow. The business was then sold to Mr. Landahl, then to Mr. Lynch. Edward Spitzer purchased the business in 1933. During the 1960s, due to the widening of 95th Street, the building was moved back from 95th Street and remodeled again. The building has been designated as a historical landmark by the Oak Lawn Historic Preservation Commission. |
