Description |
This is a photograph of the Oak Lawn Centennial Parade in 1982. It features a clown walking westbound on 95th Street near the railroad crossing near 51st Avenue. The clown is pulling what is believed to be a miniature monkey on a tricycle behind him, and may be part of the Shriners parade unit. Shriners International is a fraternity organization that is an offshoot of the Masons and are best known for their Shriners Hospitals for Children. The railroad crossing sign can be seen in the background. Spectators line the south side of 95th Street to watch the parade. The back of a large billboard can be seen overhead. This event celebrated the 100th Anniversary of when Oak Lawn was first subdivided. |
