This is a photograph featuring a view of excavation on the south side of the Oak Lawn Public Library. The excavation began a $950,000, 24,000 square foot expansion of the Oak Lawn Public Library. The foundation of the existing library is exposed as is an outside stairway. A construction worker can be seen standing in water in the excavated site while two other men look on from above. In the background, Behrend home located at 9446 S. Raymond Avenue is visible, along with several trailers in the Pine Tree Trailer Court. The building was built in 1912 or 1913. It served as the Oak Lawn Family Service Center from 1986-1989. The home was demolished and the trailer court was eventually cleared in 1989 to make way for the new Oak Lawn Public Safety Center. |
