Description |
This is a photograph of the Oak Lawn Round-Up Days parade in 1953. The black & white image shows a Conestoga wagon being pulled by a pair of oxen on 95th Street near 53rd Avenue. A sign on the side of the wagon indicates that lumber to refurbish it was donated by I.N.R. Beatty Lumber Company and that it was owned by Sparr Farms of Morris, Illinois. The sign also claims that the wagon was built in Lancaster, Pennsylvania for the 1849 California Gold Rush but never used. Hearty Eats Restaurant, Phil Krauss' Yankee Lounge and the Oak Lawn water tower can be seen in the background from left to right. Crowds of people are lining the street, watching the parade pass by. |
