Description |
This is a slide of the aftermath of the 1967 Oak Lawn tornado. It features an ariel view of the heavily damaged intersection of 95th Street and Southwest Highway looking from the northwest to the southeast. Starting in the bottom left of the picture is the damaged pool at Oak Lawn Community High School, the pedestrian overpass, the Texaco service station, and the Red Barn Drive-In at 5840 West 95th Street. In the upper left of the picture, the Knights of Columbus Hall, located at 5830 W. 95th, is visible. Also partially visible are the Fantasy Car Wash located at 5810 W. 95th Street, the Suburban Transit Bus Depot located at 5800 W. 95th Street and a few buses. The Jewel Food Store located at 5807 W. 95th Street can also be seen. In the upper middle of the picture, damage to the roof of the Oak Lawn Convalescent Home, located at 9525 South Mayfield Avenue, is visible. The Shell gas station on the southeast corner of 95th Street and Southwest Highway was totally demolished. The southwest corner of the intersection is only partially visible. In the bottom right hand of the picture, a private residence was destroyed as was Shoot's Tavern and the Fisher Motel. |
