Description |
This is a photograph featuring construction of the Oak Lawn Metra parking garage at 9525 South Tulley Avenue. A construction trailer, fencing, a crane, and material piles can seen in the left of the photograph on the construction site along the south side of the railroad tracks. On February 14, 2012, the Oak Lawn Village Board voted to change the name of the parking garage to Patriot Station in honor of first responders who died after the 9/11/2001 attack on the World Trade Center in New York. At the time of the name change in 2012, a new memorial, sponsored by the Oak Lawn Rotary Club and incorporating beams from the Twin Towers, was nearing completion beside the Oak Lawn Metra Station. The memorial is called the 9-11 First Responder Memorial. The building in the right of the photograph is part of the Beatty Lumber Company. The main building was located at 9537 South 52nd Avenue. The lumber company buildings were eventually demolished in 2016 to make way for an Advocate Medical Group building. |
