Description |
This is a photograph of the Oak Lawn Centennial Parade in 1982. It features a car pulling a float sponsored by Krauss' Gaslight Lounge. The float includes a gas lamp, several people sitting at a table, a bar, a bartender, and spittoons. The women appear to be dressed as dance hall girls while the man is outfitted as a cowboy. A sign on the trailer indicates it was provided by Carl Vandenberg. The float is moving westbound on 95th Street just past the railroad crossing at about 51st Avenue. The back of a large billboard is seen overhead and spectators are lining the south side of 95th Street to watch the parade. The event celebrated the 100th Anniversary of when Oak Lawn was first subdivided. |
