Description |
This is a photograph of the Village Green just one day prior to its formal dedication on September 14, 1996. This view is looking down the Green to the northwest from the parking lot of the Masonic Lodge located at 9420 South 52nd Avenue. A Southwest School Supply van is parked in the lot. Another vehicle is partially visible on the left, parked on Dumke Drive. The finishing touches are still be done on the gazebo located on the east end of the Green. The lawn is still cordoned off with yellow caution tape. Porta potties dot the Green in anticipation of the dedication ceremony and Fall of the Green festival scheduled for the next day. The Kid's Kingdom playground was donated by the Saturn Car Company of Oak Lawn which was owned by Gordon Walker. The Saturn car company made it a practice to donate a playground in each community where it had a dealership. The backs of homes along Oak Street just north of the Green are partially visible. The Village Green, the Veterans Memorial, the Kid's Kingdom playground, and the gazebo were all built on the former site of Oak Lawn Village Hall located at 5252 Dumke Drive. |
