Description |
This is a photograph of the first Behrend's Store on the northeast corner of Cook Avenue and Wabash Avenue, circa 1905. The black & white image shows a two story frame building with a group of people gathered on the street in front of it. Originally Crandall's Store, it was purchased by August H. Behrend in 1905 as a business and a home for his family. The building was destroyed by fire in 1912. Afterward Behrend constructed a new store at 5300 W. 95th Street. The image appeared in an issue of the 1959 Southwest Suburbanite newspaper celebrating Oak Lawn's 50th anniversary. |
