This is an aerial photograph of the Oak Lawn Community Pavilion located at 9401 S. Oak Park Avenue (right) and the adjoining baseball field complex located to the west of the Pavilion building. The Pavilion was built in 1987. Oak Park Avenue is seen in the middle of the photo running from the left (north) to the right (south). 93rd Street is seen in the left of the picture running from top (east) to bottom (west). The small building in the lower left of the photo in the baseball park is the David Johnston Community Center. The center is dedicated to Dr. David Johnston, an Oak Lawn resident who died on May 18, 1980, while serving as a volcanologist for the United States Geological Survey during the eruption of Mount St. Helens in Washington. Dr. Johnston grew up in Oak Lawn and played baseball on the fields that surround the Johnston Center. The Park District's Centennial pool is seen at the very top in the middle of the picture. Businesses along 95th Street are visible on the right. |
