This is a membership card for the National Airmen's Association of America owned by early African-American pilot Dale L. White. The card is sign by Cornelius Coffey and Willa B. Brown who ran the Coffey School of Aeronautics out of Harlem Airport. Located on the southeast corner of 87th Street and Harlem Avenue near Oak Lawn, the airfield was in use as early as 1933 and closed around 1956 after its lease expired. This item is courtesy of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. |
